Jan. 30--SOUTHINGTON -- Four women from Greater New Haven were among 10 people honored by the Connecticut Technology Council Thursday for their innovation and leadership in the fields of technology, science and engineering.
They received tributes during CTC's fifth annual Women of Innovation awards dinner at the Aqua Turf Club. CTC is the state's industry association for the technology sector.
"Connecticut has an extraordinary pool of talented women working at its technology companies, many of them anonymously," Matthew Nemerson, president and chief executive officer of the Connecticut Technology Council, said in a statement.
"This awards gala allows us to put the spotlight on these exceptional innovators and leaders and provide them with a professional network of other women who strive for excellence," he said.
Area winners and their award categories included Zoe Cournia, a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University, who won for Collegian Innovation and Leadership; and Joy Wulke, founder and creative director of Projects for a New Millennium in Branford, who won for Community Innovation and Leadership.
Also, Mingjun Huang, senior director of virology at Achillion Pharmaceuticals in New Haven, won for Research Innovation and Leadership; and Sally Cohn, executive vice president of client services for RecoveryPlanner.com Inc. in Shelton, won for Small Business Innovation and Leadership.
In addition to other winners who were honored, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz was recognized for introducing new technology to her office and to the voting process with the Public Sector Innovation and Leadership award.
The gala was co-sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim USA, the law firm of Day Pitney LLP, and United Technologies Corp.
