Jan. 31--As expected, Mayor Nutter yesterday dissolved the Penn's Landing Corp. and appointed the 15 people who will run its successor, the Delaware River Waterfront Corp.
The new agency was convened after the board of directors of the Penn's Landing Corp. held a special meeting and voted to dissolve.
In a statement, Nutter said the city needed a new institution to provide planning and development to bring about a "walkable, accessible and sustainable Delaware River waterfront."
The new group, which will focus on the seven-mile stretch of the waterfront between Allegheny and Oregon Avenues, will hold open meetings and will make all financial reports, annual reports and all other information available to the public.
The new directors are: Philadelphia Commerce Director Andrew Altman, who will serve as chairman; Alan Greenberger, executive director of the city's Planning Commission; Bill Wilson, principal-in-charge, Synterra Ltd.; Rina Cutler, deputy mayor for transportation and public utilities; Diane Dalto Woosnam, chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts; Avi Eden, consultant in finance and law; and Terry Gillen, executive director of the Redevelopment Authority.
Jay Goldstein, president and chief executive officer of Valley Green Bank; Bill Hankowsky, chairman, president and CEO of Liberty Property Trust; Michael Hauptman, Brawer & Hauptman Architects; Alan Hoffman, president of Vitetta Architects/Engineers; William R. Miller, CEO of Ross Associates; Donn Scott, sales director, Wachovia Bank; Marilyn Jordan Taylor, dean, PennDesign; and Ellen Yin, co-owner, Fork Restaurant & Bar.
