Feb. 15--GREENVILLE -- The Planning and Zoning Commission intends to take another look at plans for a new La Quinta hotel in Greenville.

Public hearings and votes are included on the agenda for Monday's regular session, concerning a preliminary plat, or layout, for the hotel site along Interstate 30 and a change in zoning for the location.

The Commission is scheduled to meet starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street.

The Commission was asked in September of last year to consider recommending a change in zoning from agricultural to commercial for a two-acre tract south of the Interstate 30 frontage road and west of Wesley Street, which was being considered for a new La Quinta Inn and Suites hotel. The tract had been purchased, but had not undergone the platting process as of that time, so the zoning issue was tabled.

Monday, the Commission intends to consider a preliminary plat application for the La Quinta Inn Addition, according to Assistant City Manager John Adel.

"It is behind United Rentals and the Mitsubishi dealership," Adel said. "There is a little tract of land there that will be the new public road that will access that area."

A change in zoning from Agricultural to Highway Retail District is also being considered for the location, which Adel said will be part of a larger proposed development of three lots.

"The La Quinta is planned to go on one of those lots," Adel said, adding there are no immediate plans to develop the other two lots.

Public hearings will be conducted on both agenda items before the Commission votes whether to recommend approval of the items to the City Council, which will have the final say.
