Feb. 18--LEBANON -- Owners of a now-closed Lebanon hotel have disappeared, leaving behind more than $150,000 in back taxes and a $13,428 bill for sewer service.
The Quality Inn at 505 S. Ind. 39 was owned by Shreya Pravin LLC, a company with a California telephone number.
Calls to the motel, and to Shreya Pravin's number in California, were not answered.
A Web search found no results for Sunil Patel, named as Shreya Pravin's "resident agent," at a Boone County address.
Patel registered the Shreya Pravin LLC with the Indiana Secretary of State on Jan. 16, 2007.
Shreya Pravin never paid Boone County property taxes, according to the County Auditor's office. The company defaulted on it's first tax bill, due in spring 2007.
With penalties, the company owes $150,862.82 in property taxes.
It also owes about $14,000 in innkeeper taxes, Boone County Attorney Eileen Sims told the county commissioners. Shreya Pravin last paid the innkeeper's tax in June 2008, she said.
"I have been told, but I have not seen any documentation, that they were not paying their state sales tax," Sims said.
The sewer bill is listed as a lien, filed in the auditor's office, Sims said. She could not confirm the sewer bill is owed to Lebanon Utilities.
"They could owe the city of Lebanon storm water fees," Sims said.
Utility bills are confidential, said Lebanon Utilities clerk Karen Campbell, a position disputed by Sims. Michael Martin, Lebanon Utilities general manager, had not returned a phone message by press time.
A message was also left for Kim Kiger, director of the Boone County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, asking for comment.
Clicking on the Lebanon Quality Inn's Web site led to Inifiniti Hotels LLC, a subsidiary of Choice Hotels International, Inc.
"All of our properties are individually owned and operated," said Rocco Loverro, a Choice Hotels spokesman. "That property is no longer officially with the system, as of Jan. 2."
Built as a Holiday Inn about 40 years ago, the motel was extensively renovated by a previous owner. It was sold at least twice, the last known time by Jewel Hospitality Corp. LLC to Shreya Pravin LLC.
