Feb. 26--WORKOUT GEAR
Picking out new running shoes -- FGP chose the Adidas Supernova Sequence, $95.
HOW OFTEN YOU SHOULD DO IT
Usually at least every six months, depending on how much you run (the rule of thumb is to replace your shoes every 300 to 500 miles).
WHERE YOU CAN GO
If you don't know what kind of shoe you need, it's probably best to visit a running store, such as Tulsa Runner, RunnersWorld or Fleet Feet Sports.
IT'S BEST FOR
Anyone who wants to enjoy exercising and have less pain.
GEAR NEEDED
Shoes, running socks, possibly orthotic insoles.
DEGREE OF COMFORT
4 SNEAKERS (on a scale of 1 to 4 sneakers)
FITNESS GUINEA PIG SAYS
FGP used to be the kind of person who picked running shoes by color and appearance: "Ooh, pink -- pretty!" Until last year, she never knew she was an overpronator who needed stability shoes and orthotic insoles.
Wearing the wrong shoes for so long probably contributed to her hatred of running, as well as pain during activities she loves, such as dog walking and Zumba. After learning the error of her ways, she got a proper pair of New Balance stability shoes with Powerstep insoles last year and wore them into the ground.
She did not follow the 300 to 500 mile guideline (how do Zumba classes fit in?) and was starting to have leg and foot
misery again. Enter the Adidas Supernova Sequence, the first pair of Adidas FGP has ever owned. But they fit like a glove and are oh-so-bouncy.
This does not mean you should run out and buy the same exact shoes -- because all feet are di]erent. Sure, try them on. But you might prefer the Nikes, Saucony or New Balance pair that FGP didn't like as much. You'll never know until you try. The Supernovas, however, are available with hot pink trim. Pretty.
