(Source: Tribune-Review/Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)trackingAnsys Inc., whose software is used to simulate how products ranging from airplanes to Olympic athletes' swimsuits will perform, reported a fourth-quarter profit Thursday of $31.9 million, or 34 cents per share.

That's almost 9 percent higher than the $29.3 million profit, or 36 cents, reported for the same period a year ago.

The company based in Cecil, Washington County, said total fourth- quarter revenue was $135.3 million, up from $111.2 million a year ago.

CEO Jim Cashman said despite the tough economy, Ansys's engineering simulation software products remain high-priority investments for companies that use them to design their own products. Ansys version 12.0 and the company's Workbench 2.0 are upcoming releases, he said.
