Serving Businesses and Residents With Broadband Internet and Telephony
BOCA RATON, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 03/11/09 -- Airspan Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRN), a
leading provider of broadband wireless access networks, announced today
that Wes-Tex Telecommunications, a division of Wes-Tex Telephone
Cooperative, Inc., working with systems integrator Stutler Technologies,
selected Airspan advanced WiMAX solutions for a city-wide deployment in Big
Spring, Texas.
Wes-Tex, a rural local exchange carrier, has previously served customers
through traditional leased wired lines. Due to rising costs, the company
began looking for alternatives to better serve its customer base. After
some research, Wes-Tex decided that Airspan's WiMAX solution would best
meet its needs in delivering high-speed Internet as well as quality voice
services.
Using Airspan's HiperMAX base station equipment in the 3.65 GHz band, the
network has full city coverage with multiple base stations communicating
with hundreds of outdoor units placed at the customer premises. This mobile
WiMAX compliant platform was selected to allow for future mobile
applications if desired. Airspan's advanced WiMAX technology offers
next-generation frequency efficiency software, quality of service (QoS) and
network management.
"Airspan and Stutler were able to devise a solution that allows us not only
to continue serving our current customers with voice, but also to expand
our customer base with added services such as high-speed Internet,"
commented Wes-Tex General Manager, J.R. "Bob" Wilson. "We were also able to
plan, develop and deploy the network very quickly and at a low cost."
Declan Byrne, Chief Marketing Officer for Airspan, added, "We are very
pleased to add Wes-Tex to our long list of rural U.S. customers. This
network further expands our leadership position in the United States and,
more specifically, in the 3.65 GHz frequency band. Our partnership with
Stutler Technologies continues to thrive as we work together to supply
broadband across the United States."
Stutler Technologies will continue to maintain the VLAN and QoS for the
Wes-Tex 3.65 GHz network.
