Illinois-based electric and mechanical components manufacturer Sauer-Danfoss has reported preliminary net sales of $371.4 million for the fourth quarter of 2008, a decrease of 25% compared with net sales of $494.2 million for the same period of 2007.

The company posted net sales of $2,090.5 million for the full year 2008, an increase of 6% compared to net sales of $1,972.5 million for the full year 2007.

The company received new orders of $222.5 million for the fourth quarter of 2008, a decrease of 66% from the same period of 2007.

Total backlog at December 31, 2008 was $743.7 million, a 19% decline from the same period of 2007.
