Mar. 26--TOKYO -- Fuji Electric Holdings Co. said Thursday it has agreed with electronic parts manufacturer TDK Corp. to integrate their uninterruptible power supply businesses currently run by their subsidiaries.
The deal was struck at a time when demand for such business is growing as an increasing number of data centers are being built around the world. The two firms want to bolster their market share, they said.
Under their agreement, reached the same day, Fuji Electric Systems Co. and TDK-Lambda Corp. will transfer their UPS operations under Fuji Electric Systems' wholly owned subsidiary, Fuji Electric Hi-Tech Corp., on Oct. 1.
Fuji Electric Systems is expected to hold a majority stake in Fuji Electric Hi-Tech.
Fuji Electric Holdings is one of the leading manufacturers of the battery back-up device that supplies emergency power to corporate clients to help save data stored in computer servers and other devices in the event of blackouts.
After the integration, Fuji Electric Holdings also plans to use TDK's production base in Thailand to expand the business in China and Southeast Asia.
