Saturday, March 28, 2009 4:02 AM

(Source: Wireless News)trackingUnisys Corp. announced that it has received an extension to its information technology (IT) outsourcing services agreement with the Chicago Park District.

The six-year contract, signed in the fourth quarter of 2008, has a value of $9.3 million, assuming the contract runs for its full six- year term and the number of Park District employees serviced under this contract does not decrease materially. The Chicago Park District has an option to extend the contract for an additional year at its discretion.

Under the terms of the contract extension, Unisys will provide infrastructure management and support services to a growing number of Park District facilities and employees throughout the city of Chicago. Those services include help desk support; management of local-area and wide-area networks (LAN/WAN); hardware support for desktop, laptop and server computers; software support; and asset management. Unisys will also continue to provide support for the Park District's administrative software applications.

The extension continues the managed services relationship that Unisys has had with Chicago Park District since 1994.

"Unisys services have provided our employees with steadily increasing access to an advanced network and information infrastructure. This has helped us manage our recreational facilities and programs more effectively," said Steve Maris, Director of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Chicago Park District. "As we extend Unisys services to additional locations over the next few years, we anticipate new ways to enhance our operations and serve the citizens of Chicago."

Unisys currently provides IT services for approximately 1,000 Chicago Park District employees in 150 locations, with more being added every year. These managed services support a range of initiatives, from enhanced communications among Park District employees to providing hot spots in certain parks to give citizens access to wireless network capabilities.

"Our long-term relationship continually affords Unisys new opportunities to innovate for the Chicago Park District," said Cathy Adduci, vice president, US Eastern Region, Unisys Global Outsourcing and Infrastructure Services. "Our understanding of this client's specific requirements, combined with Unisys services-delivery expertise, enables us to provide outsourcing solutions that support the Park District's objectives for enhanced operational efficiency and escalating levels of service to citizens."
