Mar. 31--GOOGLE LAUNCHES VENTURE CAPITAL FUND: Google has launched a venture capital arm that aims to invest in a wide range of technology-related industries. The group, called Google Ventures, is expected to invest up to $100m over the next 12 months. Google Ventures will invest in consumer Internet startups, as well as companies doing software, hardware, clean energy technologies, biotechnology and health care.
UAE UNVEILS ANTI-PIRACY CAMPAIGN: The UAE Ministry of Economy has launched an intensive anti-piracy campaign called 'Using unlicensed software can shut down your business' to educate the public about the consequences of selling and using pirated software. The campaign, which runs from March 22 to April 26, 2009, is part of a series of similar Gulf-wide efforts to combat software piracy and will tap both print and broadcast media outlets. The ministry is focusing on increasing public awareness on intellectual property rights laws and their enforcement, as well as the negative legal, investment, employment and moral effects of piracy.
IMATION LAUNCHES HOME THEATRE RANGE: Imation has announced the launch of a series of new Home Theatre entertainment products. The new range supports high definition video output for better picture quality and standard 3.5 inch and 2.5 inch, serial ATA (Sata) HDD for storing digital content. The new Imation Multimedia HDD player allows the user to browse and play back the entire media library directly through a television or home theatre system.
HP LAUNCHES MINI PC: HP has launched a mini PC aimed at mobile professionals. The HP Mini 2140 weighs 1.19 kg and features a 10.1 inch scratch-resistant HP Illumilite LED display available in standard or high-definition resolutions, a 92 percent full-size keyboard and a range of hard drive options.
3I INFOTECH LAUNCHES IN RIYADH: Global technology solutions and services provider 3i Infotech has opened its office in Riyadh. 3i Infotech has reported doubling its revenues within three years in the kingdom, serving banking and finance sectors. It has recently bagged clients such as Al Fozan and the Zamil Group.
