Oklahoma State University has awarded Clean Energy Fuels Corp. a 15-year contract to construct, operate and supply a new compressed natural gas fueling station on the campus at Stillwater.
The facility will support OSU's program to replace most of its diesel bus and gasoline-powered fleet vehicles with CNG models. The OSU CNG station will be open to the public.
The CNG fueling facility is expected to open this fall.
"Our goal is to have most of the vehicles designated for campus use equipped to run on CNG," said OSU President Burns Hargis. "This is a big step in moving OSU forward with its green initiatives. As a premier land-grant university, it is important that we are good stewards of the Earth."
Boone Pickens, an Oklahoma native and OSU graduate, is a member of Clean Energy's board of directors. Pickens is founder of Pickens Fuel Corp., predecessor company to Clean Energy.
Clean Energy owns and operates two liquefied natural gas production plants, one in Willis, Texas, and one in Boron, Calif.
