Apr. 3--Progress Energy Inc. has sold $750 million of senior notes.
The sale consisted of $300 million of 5-year, 6.05 percent notes and $450 million of 10-year, 7.05 percent notes, according to Fitch Ratings, which rated the notes "BBB".
The Raleigh-based parent of Progress Energy Carolinas and Progress Energy Florida will use the proceeds to fund capital spending in Florida and for general corporate purposes, spokesman David McNeil said.
Fitch said the rating outlook is stable, reflecting the utility holding company's strong liquidity; stable cash flows from the two regulated utilities; and historically supportive state regulatory environments in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Fitch also noted Progress Energy's January sale of $525 million of common equity to keep its capital structure balanced between equity and debt.
