Michael A. DeAngelis Award Recognizes Distinguished Accounting
Honoree for Longstanding Record of Achievement

T. Zarrilli, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, will
receive the Michael A. DeAngelis Award from LaSalle University’s School
of Business Accounting Department in recognition of his outstanding
professional achievements. Steve will be honored on April 30, 2009 at
the LaSalle’s 43rd Annual Accounting Awards dinner.
A 1983 graduate from LaSalle University, Steve has built a career
spanning more than 25 years in strategic, financial and operational
roles raising capital and providing financial oversight to small and
large businesses. Steve has held various positions as CFO and CEO of
public and private companies where he has demonstrated an ability to
successfully grow and manage entrepreneurial enterprises. In 2001, Steve
also received LaSalle University’s E-Vision award in recognition of his
accomplishments in developing and taking public one of the first
interactive digital agencies, U.S. Interactive, Inc.
Steve is formerly the co-founder and non-executive Chairman of the Penn
Valley Group, a middle-market management advisory and private equity
firm. Prior to the creation of the Penn Valley Group, Steve served as
the Chief Financial Officer of Blue Bell, PA-based Fiberlink
Communications Corp., a leading provider of remote access VPN solutions
for large enterprises. Steve’s prior experience includes serving both as
the Chief Financial Officer and then Chief Executive Officer of US
Interactive, Inc., where he led the company’s initial and secondary
public offerings. He also served as Chief Executive Officer of
Concellera Software, Inc., orchestrating the sale of its proprietary
technology to Hewlett Packard, and spent over a decade with Deloitte &
Touche, where he was responsible for developing an emerging business
practice for the firm in Philadelphia. In addition to his current duties
at Safeguard, Steve is a Director and the Chairman of the Audit
Committee of NutriSystem, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTRI).
The Michael A. DeAngelis Award was established at LaSalle is honor of
Michael “Iron Mike” DeAngelis, for his demanding and strong-willed, yet
encouraging personality. His 34 years of instruction in accounting at La
Salle (1947-1981) were highlighted in 1964 with his reception of the
Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. Mike’s work with the Beta
Alpha Accounting Honors Society and with the Accounting Society helped
many accounting majors attain solid employment upon graduation. The Mike
DeAngelis Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1982, a year
after his premature death.
In the 40 years that the Accounting Department has sponsored its Awards
Dinner, over 140 alumni have been honored with the DeAngelis Award,
including certified public accountants from Accenture, the Philadelphia
Phillies, Deloitte & Touche, PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG.
