Apr. 13--GE INKS $200M DEAL WITH EMAL: GE Energy today signed a $200m multi-year agreement with Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) as it nears completion of what will become the world's largest single-site aluminum smelter complex. The CSA will support EMAL's recent investment in GE gas turbines and the long-term productivity and efficiency of the turbines. Under the CSA, GE Energy will supply a wide range of services for the gas turbines, which are equipped with advanced emission control technologies to help EMAL reduce its carbon footprint and meet the regulatory requirements set by the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency.
SABIC SHAREHOLDERS APPROVE DIVIDEND: Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) has released a statement saying that shareholders have approved a cash dividend for 2008 of SR3 (80 cents) per share. Sabic also agreed to transfer 10 percent of 2008 profit into ordinary reserves and place the remainder into general reserves.
EASTERN PROVINCE CEMENT CUTS PRODUCTION: Saudi Arabian Eastern Province Cement has stopped production on one of its lines due to stockpiles of inventory, as the kingdom's export ban continues. The group had previously said that the ban was responsible for a decrease in Q1 profits of 37.5 percent.
SAFCO PROFITS BEAT FORECAST: Saudi Arabian Fertilizers Co (Safco), which is 42.9 percent owned by Saudi Basic Industries Corp has declared a drop of 27.4 percent in its net profit for the first quarter of 2009. Citing a drop in global prices, the company reported a net profit of SR525m, down from SR723m in the first quarter of 2008. The result was still above analysts' forecasts.
VEOLIA WINS $71M QATAR SEWAGE DEAL: French group Veolia has won a $71.7m contract to operate and maintain the Doha South sewage treatment plant in Qatar, Meed magazine has reported. The contract covers operation and maintenance services for the Doha South wastewater treatment plant and also covers industrial area sewage treatment works for the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
