Wednesday, April 15, 2009 5:51 AM

(Source: Datamonitor)trackingTexas-based patent-holding company Actus has filed a patent suit against 20 companies including Google and Sonic Solutions in the US District Court of Texas alleging infringement of four of its patents for an electronic payment system.

Other defendants in the case include Bank of America, Blaze Mobile, Capital One Financial, Enable Holdings, Green Dot, Javien Digital Payment Solutions, JP Morgan Chase & Co, MasterCard International, Meta Financial Group, M&T Bank Corporation, Obopay, Visa, Vivendi Universal SA, Wal-Mart Stores, Walt Disney Co, Western Union, WildTangent, and AgileCo.

Google faced 14 patent challenges in 2008, compared to only three in 2006 and has suggested that it plans to curb the growth of potential lawsuits by fighting rather than settling them. However, last month it agreed to settle a visual voicemail patent dispute with Klausner Technologies.
