THURSDAY: Labor Department releases weekly jobless claims, 8:30 a.m.; Commerce Department releases personal income and spending for March, 8:30 a.m.; Freddie Mac, the mortgage finance company, releases weekly mortgage rates.

FRIDAY: Commerce Department releases factory orders for March, 10 a.m.

Louisville, Ky. - Nearly three years after his triumphant victory in the 2006 Kentucky Derby, a statue honoring Barbaro will be unveiled at Churchill Downs.

Washington - President Barack Obama speaks at the annual meeting of the National Academy of Sciences.

Washington - Supreme Court hears arguments and issues orders.

Santa Ana, Calif. - Sentencing of former Orange County sheriff Michael Carona for witness tampering conviction.

Pottsville, Pa. - Murder trial begins for two teens accused of fatally beating an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

Paducah, Ky. - Opening arguments scheduled in U.S. District Court in the case of ex-soldier Steven Green, charged with crimes including rape of an Iraqi teenager and killing her and her family while on active duty in Iraq.

Erie, Pa. - Competency hearing scheduled for Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong, who is accused of masterminding a plot that killed a bank robber forced to wear a bomb locked onto his neck.

Santa Barbara, Calif. - Trial to begin for Jesse James Hollywood, accused of masterminding the abduction and murder of a teenage boy over a drug debt.

Boston - Final pretrial hearing in case of kidnapping suspect who calls himself Clark Rockefeller.

Los Angeles - The National Trust for Historic Preservation releases its list of most endangered historic places in America.

Chicago - Vice President Joe Biden headlines the fifth annual Richard J. Daley Urban Forum: "Global Economic Recovery: Cities Lead the Way" at University of Illinois at Chicago.

Philadelphia - Equality Forum 2009, a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender conference, will be held. Through May 3.

Richmond, Va. - Former president Bill Clinton campaigns with former DNC chairman Terry McAuliffe, one of three candidates in the June 9 Virginia Democratic primary for governor.

Wilmington, Ohio- Tickets distributed for Jay Leno's Comedy Stimulus show, designed to boost spirits of those laid off as a result of a cargo company's decision to leave town.

Corning, N.Y. - Corning Inc. reports first-quarter financial results.

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Hanesbrands Inc. reports first-quarter financial results.

Louisville, Ky. - Humana Inc. reports first-quarter financial results.

San Antonio - Valero Energy Corp. reports first-quarter financial results.
