May 14--The county's spring cleaning push comes to a climax Saturday with the Beautify Butte program's finale.

Saturday's event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the county landfill, 1 mile north of Interstates 15-90 Rocker interchange, and includes prize giveaways and the opportunity for residents to get rid of garbage at little or no charge.

Prizes -- to be distributed throughout the day -- include a propane grill, gas weed trimmer, a trimmer with multi-tool attachments, cordless trimmer, $50 cash, 30-gallon trash containers, garden hoses, brooms, shovels, lawn rakes, gloves, landscaping fabric and coupons from local fast food restaurants.

The first 100 vehicles to visit the landfill will receive a free pie, compliments of Perkins Restaurant and Bakery.

Refrigerators and freezers will be accepted free at the landfill on Saturday only. Nordic Refrigeration and Steele's Warehouse will provide free Freon removal and A&S Metals will handle disposal.

Washers, dryers, stoves, water tanks, vehicle batteries and used oil (in a container) are accepted at the county landfill on a daily basis.

A fee is charged for tire disposal -- $1.75 per tire for passenger vehicles and pick-up trucks and $4 for larger tires.

Free compost is also available. Residents should bring their own containers.

The prizes are donated by local business including Wal-Mart, Kmart, Ace Hardware, Continental Fence, Triple S Building Center, Three Bears Alaska, Quality Supply, Pro Build, Montana Broom & Brush, Perkins, Wendy's, Pizza Hut and Burger King.
