(Source: Canada Newswire)trackingCALGARY, June 1 /CNW/ - The Canadian Nuclear Society will hold its annual conference at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, Sunday to Wednesday, May 31-June 3, 2009.

"New Nuclear Frontiers" is the theme for this year's gathering of nuclear industry experts from across Canada and around the world. This theme reflects both a growing interest in nuclear technology outside its traditional regions of implementation, as well as the exciting advancements taking place within Canada's nuclear science and technology community in order to meet these needs.

It is fitting that this year's conference is being held in Alberta, which has lead the wave of interest in nuclear technology in Canada's west. It is a province with enormous potential for nuclear energy, in both the traditional electricity-generation and the resource extraction sectors. At this critical time in the evolution of the Canadian nuclear industry, Canada's national nuclear society takes its annual conference to the New Frontier itself.

Topics for discussion at this conference will include: the nuclear renaissance in Canada and around the world, recent developments at Canadian utilities, plans for plant refurbishment and new build, and uranium supply and enrichment issues. As well, a special "Western Focus Seminar" will run in parallel all three days, intended to introduce Western decision makers to nuclear technology. For business, energy, and science reporters this conference offers an insight into major nuclear projects and an opportunity to meet leaders in the nuclear sector. A few of the many conference highlights are listed below (more details at www.cns-snc.ca).

Media passes are available to accredited journalists at the conference registration desk (access to luncheons does not include food).
