InEnTec LLC today announced that its Board of Managers has appointed Karl A. Schoene as Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Schoene replaces Jeffrey E. Surma, who has become Chief Executive Officer of S4 Energy Solutions LLC, a new joint venture between InEnTec LLC and Waste Management Corporation that will develop, operate and market plasma gasification facilities using InEnTec's Plasma Enhanced Melter (PEM) technology.
The joint venture is expected to process waste from the country's increasingly segmented commercial and industrial waste streams to produce a range of renewable energy and environmentally beneficial fuels and industrial products as well as to generate electricity. S4 Energy Solutions' initial focus will be to process medical and other segregated commercial and industrial waste streams. The company's future commercialization plans may also include the processing of municipal solid waste once the technology has been demonstrated to be economical and scalable for such use.
Dr. Schoene brings to InEnTec a 20-year career in the chemicals and plastics industry with a track record in R&D, business development and general management. Most recently, he was Vice President and Global SBU Manager -- Organometallic Specialties, of Akzo Nobel. Dr. Schoene has also held senior management positions at Witco Corporation, Amoco Corporation, and Albemarle Corporation.
"InEnTec LLC now has two new and exciting joint-venture projects in place -- S4 Energy Solutions and InEnTec Chemical," said E. Gary Cook, Executive Chairman of InEnTec LLC. "Going forward, InEnTec's primary focus will be on technical and engineering support for these ventures, the efficient and cost effective manufacture of PEM systems, pursuit of new opportunities and applications for PEM technology, and as a top priority, an increased commitment to R&D to ensure that we maintain our technological superiority," said Cook. "Karl has the ideal educational and career experience to lead InEnTec in these areas. He also has the drive, enthusiasm and creativity necessary to lead an innovative company like InEnTec, and we have complete confidence that Karl will continue to build on the outstanding accomplishments of his predecessor, Jeff Surma."
The PEM gasification technology developed by InEnTec over the past 13 years can be used with virtually any waste product as feedstock. The technology produces an ultra pure synthesis gas (syngas), which can then be converted into clean energy products such as hydrogen, and liquid transportation fuels such as ethanol, methanol, and synthetic diesel.
