Jun. 3--PORT CARBON -- Borough council members mulled joining the Central Schuylkill Council of Governments at its work session Tuesday.

Councilman John Franko said he and several other borough officials had attended an April COG meeting in Palo Alto, at which a copy of the Northern Schuylkill Council of Governments bylaws was given out as a template.

A few pages were missing, and when they were faxed to Port Carbon officials, the council noticed language about a per-capita fee for participating municipalities.

Franko and Councilman Andy Palokas said they weren't sure about the details of the fee, but intended to ask about it at a June 16 COG meeting in Branch Township.

"I'm sure more than us are going to bring it up," Palokas said.

Franko said the Northern Schuylkill COG also had the benefit of a $450,000 grant to jump-start the group, a perk Port Carbon and other central county municipalities do not have.

Concerning another matter, Franko congratulated borough Eagle Scout Joey Nanzok on his Eagle project, the construction of a pavilion at the Lubinsky playground that was finished a few weeks ago.

Franko said the project was a joint effort with the Port Carbon Rotary.

No votes were taken during the work session. Borough council will meet again Tuesday for its monthly meeting.
