A $67 million flyover project designed to improve traffic flow in the Short Pump area of Henrico County is finished. The Virginia Department of Transportation said yesterday that the three-year project was completed at about $1.1 million under budget.
It includes a two-lane flyover ramp to carry drivers from Interstate 64 to Interstate 295, an additional travel lane along I- 64 east of Route 288 to I-295, and an additional travel lane along I- 64 west from I-295 to Route 288.
OSU president to leave Massey Energy board
Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee will step down from the board Massey Energy. Richmond-based Massey said yesterday that Gee will leave July 1 after nine years.
Gee, 65, was re-elected to the board at the company shareholders meeting May 19. But he has been under pressure from environmental groups who challenge some mining practices.
In a letter to Massey CEO Don Blankenship, Gee said he wanted to devote more attention to the university. Gee returned in July 2007 to the helm of Ohio State.
Genworth sets IPO for Canadian operation
Genworth Financial Inc. filed a plan yesterday to sell as much as 49 percent of its Canadian mortgage guarantor in an initial public offering.
"We believe this IPO, when completed, reinforces our already sound financial foundation," said Michael D. Fraizer, chairman and CEO of the Henrico County-based company.
Genworth, which announced the plan May 7, filed the prospectus with Canadian regulators yesterday. The offering is expected to be completed in the third quarter.
Genworth shares jumped 74 cents, or 14.3 percent, to $5.92.
Krispy Kreme is sued by Fairfax over sewage
FAIRFAX - Fairfax County blames Krispy Kreme for damaging its sewer system by dumping yeast and grease from a plant in Lorton.
The county filed a lawsuit this month after the company refused to pay a $1.9 million bill for repairs to the system.
Krispy Kreme says the charges are unfounded.
The lawsuit says the damage was caused by "excessive quantities of highly corrosive wastes, doughnut grease and other pollutants."
