Jun. 15--Tonight the Centerville City Council will look at amending three city ordinances, hold a public hearing and set a date for a second and attend to other items listed for the 5:30 p.m. meeting.
One agenda item the council will decide on is a resolution opposing Alliant Energy's request to increase electric rates. Another is to set a date for a special council meeting to approve year-end bills.
Rollie Reznicek and Jason Oglesby are listed in the agenda to discuss the city's involvement in a Summer Youth Program to be held from June 22 to July 17. They intend to ask the city to guarantee $1,000 for the four-week camp estimated to cost almost $12,000. The Monday through Friday camp is aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 12. The cost would be $25 per child.
The city is looking at changing the parking and vendor's license ordinance.
If passed, the city parking ordinance would be amended to read: "It is unlawful to stop, stand or park any freight-carrying motor vehicle, or any passenger-carrying motor vehicle of any description which is over six feet in width or over fourteen feet in length, except by special permit or unless the vehicle is stopped temporarily for loading or unloading purposes. This includes any trailer, camper, motor home, boat trailer and/or any other type of trailer."
The second ordinance the city will decide to amend deals with vendor's licenses.
Key changes include a $50 per year fee for Centerville residents, a $100 per year fee for Appanoose County residents and a $50 per 24-hour period fee for any others for the right to purchase a Peddler License. A Peddler License, if approved, will be defined as "any person who sells or trades any agricultural product, fruit, vegetables, goods, wares, commodities, merchandise or other things of value from house to house, door to door or in public areas or at road side stands, or who takes orders from goods, either for present or future delivery, or sold on installments."
The third ordinance deals with services outside the city limits to include voluntarily annexing if provided those services by the city.
The public hearing the council will hold deals with the progress of the Community Development Block Grant Water Improvement Project grant. Then the council is expected to to set a time and date for a public hearing regarding a CDBG application for the storm sewer.
Other items include a discussion to place a bike trail on Haynes Avenue and allowing ITT Corporation to place a surveillance and broadcast service tower at the airport.
