Jun. 19--BOULDER, Colo. -- Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter on Thursday said Boulder-based Tendril Networks Inc., a SmartGrid technology company, is in the "sweet spot" of the state's new energy economy.

The intention to have Colorado become a leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy, and the role of universities and businesses in that process, were highlighted by the governor during a reception for Tendril's new 22,000-square-foot headquarters at 5395 Pearl St.

Tendril's technology, which can be incorporated into utilities systems and other places such as home appliances, allows people to better understand their energy consumption.

"It's the future of America; it's the energy future of America, and you're right where you need to be," Ritter told the dozens of Tendril employees, industry members and investors on hand.

Ritter's visit comes on the heels of Tendril raising $30 million in venture capital funding. The money will be put toward supporting Tendril's new utilities customers; research and development; and expansion into Europe, said Adrian Tuck, the company's chief executive officer.

Tuck said Tendril is in a prime position to capitalize on municipalities' and consumers' increasing adoption of energy-saving measures. The company has landed a number of undisclosed utilities providers and is talking with some appliance manufacturers as well, he said.

The 60-employee Tendril has plans to hire an additional 100 people during the next six to 12 months, he said.
