BEIJING, May 6, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Actions Semiconductor (NASDAQ:ACTS) Co., Ltd. (ACTS.NASDAQ), a fabless semiconductor company in China, has reported a net loss of 1.5 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2009.
In the quarter ended March 31, the company's net loss was 0.02 dollar per ADS, compared to the net profit of 0.01 dollar per ADS for the fourth quarter of 2008, and 0.13 dollar per ADS for the first quarter of 2008.
Its first quarter revenues amounted to 12.2 million dollars, down from the 16.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2008 and 25.2 million in the first quarter of 2008.
Nan-Horng Yeh, CEO of Actions Semiconductor, said that the company's long-term growth strategy will remain focusing on "gaining traction in new geographies and end markets" as the demand for consumer electronics continue to be impacted by the economic wobbles.
The company estimates its revenues for the second quarter in a range of nine to 12 million dollars, and gross margin, 30 percent to 35 percent.
Since the company started the share repurchase programs in 2007, it repurchased over 8.9 million ADSs by March 31, 2009.
