New Name to be Arbinet, Corporation
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., June 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Arbinet-thexchange Inc. (Nasdaq: ARBX) announces that it has changed its name to Arbinet, Corporation. President and CEO, Mr. Shawn O'Donnell made the announcement at the Company's Annual Shareholder's Meeting held on June 16, 2009 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The announcement follows a vote by shareholders who approved the name change by an overwhelming majority.
O'Donnell stated that 'Arbinet Corporation is a name that more clearly reflects the company's evolution from an electronic marketplace for the exchange of voice services to one that provides cost-effective and simplified voice and Internet Protocol (IP) services to global telecommunications carriers and service providers. We have begun to devote a portion of our resources, in both capital and personnel, towards building these additional services, namely thexchange(TM), Carrier Services and Private Exchange(TM). This name change reflects the increased flexibility and the expanded ways that the company works with telecom customers and suppliers.'
Arbinet is well-known as the operator of thexchange, the world's largest exchange for voice traffic where customers and suppliers trade, route, manage and settle voice traffic to more than 1400 international destinations. The 1100+ members of thexchange connect anonymously with each other via a single interconnect.
Arbinet Carrier Services is a standard wholesale interface where customers buy from a number of A-Z routing tables using traditional wholesale processes. Suppliers of thexchange can qualify to be included in the Carrier Service routing tables.
Arbinet's Private Exchange simplifies direct interconnections between carriers. It enables Arbinet Carrier Service customers and thexchange members to create virtual direct routes with more than 1100 service providers across the globe. Private Exchange users negotiate their own commercial deals and then route traffic directly to each other over the Arbinet Network.
