UBS Investment Bank’s Equities Research business announced today that
UBS Alternative Research has continued its expansion by broadening its
existing relationship with Abacus Analytics, a quantitative consulting
firm. Offerings from Abacus include research and consulting services
organized around the portfolio management process, featuring models and
analytics for alpha generation, risk management, portfolio construction
and performance attribution.
UBS’s arrangement with Abacus will include joint marketing to investors
as well as research collaboration with our leading quantitative research
team. The expanded alliance builds on UBS’s existing relationship with
Abacus through which Abacus will continue to enhance our quantitative
research offerings and provide key evaluation metrics for portfolio
performance.
“Abacus brings sophisticated insight and a differentiated suite of tools
to portfolio management, but they aren’t just looking at the surface,”
said Mark Steinert, Global Head of Equities Research at UBS. “Abacus
uses an understanding of the statistical properties of underlying alpha
generators to design strategy parameters that really enhance performance
and benefit clients.”
Berry Cox, founder and president of Abacus observed, “We are looking
forward to working with UBS to broaden the range of analytical services
that they can offer their clients, particularly equity managers and
buyside analysts. With research budgets shrinking, many firms are
seeking to outsource some of their R&D and risk management functions.
Our expanded relationship with UBS will offer unrivaled access to these
opportunities.”
“Our focus at UBS Alternative Research is on offering our clients access
to analysis and insight that simply are not available elsewhere on the
Street,” added Nick Agarwal, Head of UBS Alternative Research. “Our
clients need solutions that address not only tailored risk management
requirements, but also provide them with alpha generating tools. We
believe this extended relationship with Abacus strengthens our offering
to UBS clients.”
In addition to Abacus, UBS Alternative Research has also formed
strategic alliances with other independent firms including Integrity
Research, Governance Metrics International, America’s Research Group,
Noble and Trucost.
UBS has more Institutional Investor ranked analysts than any
other firm and is a leading provider of research on companies, industry
