GUADALAJARA, Mexico, June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Grupo Aeroportuario
del Pacifico, S.A.B. de C.V. (NYSE: PAC; BMV: GAP) ('the Company' or 'GAP')
announced today preliminary terminal passenger traffic figures for the month
of May 2009 compared to traffic figures for May 2008.
During May 2009, total terminal passengers decreased 36.6% compared to the
previous year; international passenger traffic decreased 43.7% and domestic
passenger traffic decreased 33.3% compared to May 2008.
Regarding material events for the month, during the last week of May, the
epidemiological alert for the AH1N1 flu virus epidemic was raised, which
resulted in the cancellation of flights from Canada, the U.S. and some
domestic flights due to low load levels. This resulted in the decline of
international and domestic passenger traffic. The decrease in traffic at the
Aguascalientes airport, however, was due to the cancellation of the San Marcos
Festival, which attracts thousands of tourists to this city each year.
Additionally, the Mexican Federal Aviation Authority suspended Aviacsa's
operations due to irregularities in aircraft safety. Aviacsa operates at the
airports of Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Puerto Vallarta and Tijuana. As of May
2009, Aviacsa transported 298,011 passengers for the year, 5.9% of domestic
passengers and 3.6% of GAP's total passengers.
