The Phoenix Companies, Inc. (NYSE: PNX) today announced the promotion of
Christopher M. Wilkos to executive vice president and chief investment
officer, effective immediately. He will continue to report to James D.
Wehr, president and chief executive officer, who was chief investment
officer prior to his own promotion last month.

respect his investment expertise, admire his patience and focus, and
have the utmost confidence in his leadership,” said Mr. Wehr. “This role
is critical to Phoenix’s success, and Chris is exceptionally
well-positioned to guide us in this challenging investment environment.”
As chief investment officer, Mr. Wilkos, 51, sets investment strategy to
ensure that Phoenix fulfills its obligations to customers. He also is
responsible for the public and private fixed income groups, corporate
portfolio management, and Goodwin Capital Advisers, a Phoenix subsidiary
which manages mutual funds and institutional client portfolios. In
addition, he oversees the life insurance company’s general account and
affiliated investment portfolios.
Mr. Wilkos joined Phoenix in 1997 as director of Corporate Portfolio
Management and was named vice president in 1998 and senior vice
president in 2001.
Prior to joining Phoenix, he served as an investment officer, portfolio
manager, and vice president of Portfolio Strategy and Operations for
Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Wilkos holds the chartered financial analyst (CFA) designation and
is a member of the CFA Institute and the Hartford CFA Society. He is an
instructor for the Hartford CFA review program. Active in the community,
Mr. Wilkos is a Scoutmaster for the South Windsor Boy Scouts, is a
member of the Connecticut Rivers Boy Scout Endowment Investment
Committee, is on the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Capital
Area, and is chairman of the investment committee for the United Way. He
is also a member of the UConn SMF Investment Advisory Board.
Mr. Wilkos has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the College of the
Holy Cross, cum laude, and a master’s in business administration in
Finance from the University of Connecticut. A resident of South Windsor,
Conn., he and his wife, Brenda, have three sons.
