(Source: PRNewswire)trackingIRVING, Texas, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- First Choice Power provides summer energy-saving tips and price plans to help Texans stay cool. Consumers can visit http://www.firstchoicepower.com/tips for no- and low-cost ways to save energy. First Choice Power also will triple any donations made to its Care to Share program to help low-income and elderly who need help paying their bills.

"With energy-efficiency tips, price protection plans and extra assistance, we are working with our customers to help manage energy costs this summer," said Brian Hayduk, president of First Choice Power. "Energy efficiency makes sense throughout the year, but as the temperatures rise, reducing energy usage can really pay off. We also want to aid residential customers who need a little extra help by providing extra emergency assistance through the Care to Share Fund."

Additional Customer Assistance -- For every $1 a residential customer donates to the Care to Share Fund now until Sept. 20, 2009, First Choice Power will contribute $3.* Customers can make a contribution by adding a donation to their monthly bill payment and submitting it along with their check payment. Donations are tax deductible. -- First Choice Power offers customer choice with a broad range of price plans, including two-year price protection and 100 percent renewable energy plans. -- Residential customers may pay their deposit in two equal installments. Be More Energy-Efficient 1. Set your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher, and increase the temperature about 8 degrees when your house is empty. 2. Use floor and ceiling fans to make the room feel about 4 degrees cooler. If you use ceiling fans, you can turn the thermostat up a degree or two and keep the same cool feeling using less energy. 3. Replace your air-conditioning filter each month to maximize its operating efficiency and reduce cooling costs as much as 10 percent. 4. Caulk and weather-strip leaks around windows and doors to prevent cool air from escaping. You can save 10 percent or more by reducing cracks in your ceilings, walls and windows. 5. Close drapes or blinds to block direct sunlight and reduce the amount of heat entering your home.
