3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced that the company's Board
of Directors has elected J. Donald Sherman, the chief financial officer
of Akamai Technologies, Inc., to serve as a Class I director, effective
July 31, 2009. Mr. Sherman, the ninth member of the 3Com Board of
Directors, is an “independent” board member. Mr. Sherman also will serve
on the Audit & Finance Committee.
“We are very pleased to add JD to the 3Com Board of Directors,” said
3Com Chairman Eric Benhamou. “JD brings almost 20 years of financial
experience with leading global technology companies. Given the
complexity of today’s financial reporting and compliance requirements,
we are very fortunate to add someone with JD’s experience to our Board.”
J. Donald Sherman, 44, is CFO of Akamai Technologies, Inc., a leading
provider of managed services for powering rich media, dynamic
transactions and enterprise applications online. Mr. Sherman has been
Akamai’s CFO since March 2006 and was its senior vice president and
CFO-elect from November 2005 to March 2006. Prior to joining Akamai, Mr.
Sherman was employed by IBM for 15 years (1990-2005). At IBM, Mr.
Sherman served in a variety of finance roles including vice president,
Finance, Systems and Technology Group from January 2005 to October 2005
and vice president, Finance of IBM’s zSeries Server Division from
2002-2004. Mr. Sherman earned a master’s degree in business
administration from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in
economics from Emory University.
