(Source: Datamonitor)trackingThe Supreme Court of Chile has invalidated an environmental permit granted by the Chilean regulatory authorities for the Campiche thermal power plant, a 270MW coal plant located in Ventanas, Chile. US-based power company AES indirectly owns a 71% interest in the proposed Campiche facility through its subsidiary AES Gener, a Chilean electricity producer.

As a result of the court's ruling against the local permitting authority, AES Gener is stopping work on the Campiche plant, which was previously expected to commence commercial operations in the second quarter of 2011.

Construction on the project would resume when a solution has been implemented which complies with all applicable laws.

The 270MW Campiche plant is one of the 26 projects in AES's 3,500MW development portfolio.
