EDMONTON - Alberta has put together a panel of experts to give it advice on how to take the swings out of the province's rollercoaster economy.

The panel includes former Liberal deputy prime minister Anne McLellan, former Bank of Canada governor David Dodge and former Conservative cabinet minister David Emerson.

Jim Gray, a former oilpatch executive who is now chairman of the Canada West Foundation, has also been named to the 12 member Council on Economic Strategy.

Premier Ed Stelmach says he wants the board to act as a think tank and give the province advice on how to diversify the economy and ensure long-term prosperity.

Stelmach says the panel will look at what major forces will shape the world and Alberta over the next 30 years.

He says the panel will also look at how other governments are dealing with such challenges.
