The board of directors of Goldman Sachs Bank USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Goldman Sachs Group, has appointed Matthew Barrett, Ann Kaplan and Thomas Melzer as independent directors of the bank, increasing the total number of the bank's directors to 10.
Mr Barrett most recently served from 1999 to 2006 as CEO and then chairman of Barclays. He currently serves as a director of Harry Winston Diamond and as a member of the international advisory board of National Bank of Kuwait.
Ms Kaplan is the chair of Circle Financial Group and an adjunct professor of finance at the Columbia University School of Business. Previously, she was a general partner of Goldman, Sachs & Company and a managing director after the firm became a public company.
She currently serves on the board of Financial Guaranty Insurance Company. She also serves on the boards of the American Red Cross, Columbia University, Columbia Business School Board of Overseers, Smith College and the Museum of Arts & Design.
Mr Melzer is a co-founder and managing director of RiverVest Venture Partners. He currently serves as a director of ISTO Technologies. He is a director of Parents as Teachers National Center, a member of the advisory board of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and a member of the National Council of the Olin School of Business at Washington University.
