Jul. 4--It's perfect flip-flop weather for Fourth of July celebrations today, but by this evening you might just be reaching for a light sweater.
High temperatures today are forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s, feeling similar to conditions Friday, said Felix Garcia, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
A ridge of high pressure is sitting over the Sacramento region, making for very clear skies after the sun sets at 8:34 p.m. tonight.
"It's perfect to watch the fireworks," he said.
Temperatures are expected to drop to about 70 degrees around 9 p.m.
Water temperatures likely will be pretty cool this weekend as well.
The American River at the Hazel Avenue bridge was about a chilly 60 degrees and the Sacramento River at the Delta was 62 degrees Friday, according to online data from the California Department of Water Resources.
The surface temperature of Folsom Lake was 77 degrees this morning, according to Folsom Lake Marina's Web site.
Sunny skies also are in the forecast Sunday, but southerly winds between 10 to 20 mph, with gusts of up to 30 mph, are expected in the late morning and afternoon, Garcia said.
Highs Sunday are expected to be in the low 90s.
Planning a boating excursion at Folsom Lake this weekend?
Boaters using the ramp at Brown's Ravine should plan to be in the water by noon, since parking is in short supply and the ramp has been closing early. Arriving early may also mean an easier time getting the boat out of the water, since a majority of boaters seem to leave between 4 and 6 p.m., making for a traffic nightmare, the marina's Web site advises.
Boaters are asked to park their vehicles and trailers using only one space.
