'This new release salutes not only the talent and style of a great athlete but the ongoing efforts in his drive to raise consciousness about environmental issues,' said Colin Baden, president of the company. 'Bob has been part of the Oakley family for many years, and we have always been inspired by his achievements in skate and his championing of Green initiatives. With its eco-conscious materials, the Bob Burnquist Gascan is a milestone in eyewear design that helps support a noble cause while bridging the gap between technical innovation and the Green way of thinking,' Baden concluded.
To produce the frame, Oakley is utilizing excess materials from the manufacture of other eyewear. A sustainable natural fiber that is fully biodegradable, 100% certified organic bamboo is used to make the included storage bag. Icons that accent the frame are also made of bamboo, and Oakley is using recycled materials and eco-friendly inks for packaging.
With its clean, uncomplicated styling, Gascan is part of the Oakley Lifestyle Collection inspired by athletes. In addition to bamboo icon accents, this special edition features Warm Grey lenses, Black frame coloration and screen printing on the inside of the right temple.
Brazil native Bob Burnquist began his skate career at age eleven and turned pro by age fourteen. He is a pioneer and continuing innovator of mega ramp skateboarding, and his switch-stance ability and creative lines have been honored with numerous gold, silver and bronze medals.
