Biometrics Division Meets Business Goals for the First Half of the
Year
L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: ID), a leading provider of identity
solutions and services, announced that in the second quarter it shipped
$8.3 million in PIER and HIIDE biometric enrollment and recognition
devices for use in areas of conflict around the world. Of that, $2.7
million was from new purchase orders awarded in the quarter. The orders
were received by the Biometrics Division of L-1.
“I am pleased to report that the biometrics division has achieved its
business goals and objectives for the first half of the year and we
expect to see additional awards for multi-modal devices throughout the
remainder of 2009,” said Robert V. LaPenta, Chairman, President and CEO
of L-1 Identity Solutions. “Adoption of our handheld devices continues
to move at a steady and strong pace globally, underscoring that the
level of functionality of our solutions, and our ability to meet
customer demands anywhere, anytime, is unsurpassed in the identity
management industry.”
HIIDE is the world's first ruggedized tri-modal mobile biometric
enrollment and recognition device providing real-time identification
using iris, finger and face biometrics. First introduced in 2005, it is
the most pervasive device of its kind with over 9,000 devices fielded
into areas of global conflict. It is also the most widely deployed
multi-modal device with defense agencies. More than 4,000 PIER devices
are in the field today, used for mobile enrollment and identification
based on iris recognition.
