Landstar System, a US-based transportation and logistics services company, has reported a net income of $17.9 million or $0.35 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2009, compared to $29.8 million or $0.56 per diluted share in the in the second quarter of 2008.
The company's revenue for the second quarter of 2009 was $491.2 million, compared to $697.7 million in the second quarter of 2008.
For the six months ended June 27, 2009, the company has reported a net income of $31.8 million or $0.61 per diluted share, compared to $53.5 million or $1.01 per diluted share in the first six months of 2008.
The company's revenue for the first six months of 2009 was $960 million, compared to $1.31 billion for the first six months of 2008.
Henry Gerkens, president and CEO of Landstar, said: "In the 2009 second quarter, Landstar's revenue continued to be negatively impacted by the severe recession in the domestic and global economies. As was the case in the 2009 first quarter, revenue declines were experienced in just about every sector, including revenue generated from the US Department of Defense."
