Club Onyx Philadelphia, part of the Rick’s Cabaret
International, Inc. (NASDAQ: RICK) group of adult nightclubs, was
voted Best Nightclub at the third annual Philly Hip Hop Awards
ceremony.
The tribute was announced at a packed ceremony at the First District
Plaza in Philadelphia July 12th, just eight months after the
club at 2908 South Columbus Blvd. was converted to the upscale format
catering to African-American gentlemen. It previously operated as a
Rick’s Cabaret.
The luxurious 25,000 square foot club featuring the best in hip hop and
R&B music, and dancers is located just south of the professional sports
complex where the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers and Flyers
play their home games.
The format for the club was developed by Ed Anakar, Director of
Operations for Rick’s Cabaret, who launched the first Club Onyx in the
Galleria district of Houston in June 2004. Subsequently the
company has converted other nightclubs to in Charlotte and Dallas
to the Club Onyx format.
“African-American gentlemen have responded enthusiastically to the Club
Onyx concept, which provides a first class, upscale environment,
terrific entertainment by beautiful women, warm hospitality and great
food,” said Mr. Anakar. “We are honored to have been voted Best
Nightclub in Philadelphia after being opened for such a short time, but
it just shows how well the concept has caught on in Philly.”
