Jul. 21--QUEENSBURY -- The chief executive of AngioDynamics will ring the opening bell for the Nasdaq trading session Thursday morning.
CEO Jan Keltjens and a dozen or so employees representing a cross-section of the company will attend, spokesman John Mousaw said Monday morning.
AngioDynamics has had the honor three times, most recently on Feb. 29, 2008, when former CEO Eamonn Hobbs rang the closing bell in honor of the firm's fourth anniversary of going public.
The firm had requested to make an appearance last year, but was invited by Nasdaq this year, again to roughly coincide with its anniversary as a publicly traded company.
"It's good investor-relations exposure, and while in New York, the CEO will have interviews with other media outlets," Mousaw said.
He expects Keltjens to stress many of the talking points from the company's fourth-quarter earnings report last week.
While sales jumped 13 percent and profits increased fivefold in the fourth quarter ending May 31, the results failed to meet Wall Street analysts' expectations.
The medical device maker said earnings this year included a $700,000 write-off related to an abandoned plan for a facility expansion in Queensbury, while the prior year included a $6.8 million litigation expense, both of which had an impact on results.
Excluding those one-time items, the company said profits slid 28 percent in the fourth quarter.
AngioDynamics attributed the decline to an increased investment in its NanoKnife tumor-treating technology, as well as sales and marketing expenses.
Keltjens said last week that the fourth-quarter results indicate an ongoing transition. Since taking over the company on March 1, he has laid out a plan to bring focus to the various business units and increase manufacturing and supply chain efficiency.
AngioDynamics also plans to establish a corporate office near Albany instead of pursuing previously announced plans to expand the Queensbury facility.
