Babcock & Wilcox Beijing Company Ltd. (BWBC), a joint venture company of Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG), has been awarded a contract valued at more than $180 million to supply two 600 megawatt boilers to the state-run Lilama Corporation for installation at the Vung Ang I Power Plant in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam. B&W PGG is a major operating unit of The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W), a wholly owned subsidiary of McDermott International, Inc.
In April 2009, Lilama signed a contract with state oil company PetroVietnam, the owner of the plant, to build the facility over 45 months. BWBC, a joint venture between B&W PGG and Beijing Jingcheng Mechanical & Electrical Holding Co., Ltd. (JCH), will manufacture the boilers and supply other accessory equipment from their operations in Beijing. Featuring B&W's "downshot" design, the boilers utilize an enlarged, refractory-lined furnace that is ideal for combusting coals with low volatile matter content. The balance of the boiler design is B&W radiant boiler technology known for its proven reliability and availability.
