Babcock & Wilcox Beijing Company, a joint venture company of Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, has secured a contract valued at more than $180 million to supply two 600MW boilers to the state-run Lilama for installation at the Vung Ang I power plant in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam.
Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group (B&W PGG) is a major operating unit of The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W), a wholly owned subsidiary of McDermott International. In April 2009, Lilama signed a contract with state oil company PetroVietnam, the owner of the plant, to build the facility over 45 months.
Babcock & Wilcox Beijing Company (BWBC), a joint venture between B&W PGG and Beijing Jingcheng Mechanical & Electrical Holding (JCH), will manufacture the boilers and supply other accessory equipment from their operations in Beijing. Featuring B&W's 'downshot' design, the boilers utilize an enlarged, refractory-lined furnace that is ideal for combusting coals with low volatile matter content.
Richard Killion, president and COO of B&W PGG, said: "This contract demonstrates B&W PGG's continued ability to meet the diverse needs of customers on a global basis. We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with Lilama."
