Alliance Data Systems, a provider of loyalty and marketing solutions, has reported a net income of $29.4 million, or $0.51 per diluted share, for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009, a 37% decrease, compared to $46.9 million, or $0.60 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2008.
For the second quarter of 2009, total revenues were $460.4 million, a 9% decrease, compared to $507.2 million in the second quarter of 2008.
For the first six months ended June 30, 2009, total revenues were $940.7 million, a 7% decrease, compared to $1 billion in the prior-year period. Net income was $57.3 million, or $0.96 per diluted share, a 40% decrease, compared to $96.3 million, or $1.21 per diluted share, in the prior-year period.
Ed Heffernan, president and CEO of Alliance Data, said: "Despite these significant headwinds that we faced this quarter and a challenging first half of the year, we saw positive trends in all of our businesses this quarter. We announced sizeable client wins, expansions and/or renewals across all three businesses and also successfully completed several capital raising transactions for securing additional liquidity for both corporate operations and private label funding."
