Rentech, Inc. (NYSE AMEX: RTK) announced today that it has engaged ENVIRON International Corporation (ENVIRON) to act as the Company's consultant and contractor for the permitting process for its proposed Rialto Renewable Energy Center (Rialto Project) based in Rialto, California.
ENVIRON will assist in preparing applications for permits necessary to construct and operate the Rialto Project and also perform technical studies for the environmental documents needed to satisfy the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). ENVIRON has been involved in the issuance of major air permits in California's South Coast Air Quality Management District, the agency to which the Rialto Project is subject, and has long been involved with preparing environmental documentation under CEQA.
The Rialto Project is currently designed to produce approximately 600 barrels per day of renewable, ultra-clean synthetic fuels and 35 megawatts of renewable electricity primarily from urban woody green waste such as yard clippings. The facility is expected to provide fuels that exceed California's Low Carbon Fuels Standard and electricity that qualifies under the Renewable Portfolio Standard.
The Rialto Project is currently in the feasibility engineering phase which is expected to be completed this fall. The completion of this phase of the project will provide much of the data necessary to complete the permit applications. Rentech expects to file the permit applications for the Rialto Project in 2010 and the facility is anticipated to come online in 2012.
