Sylvia J. Kerrigan Elected Vice President and General Counsel
HOUSTON, July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE: MRO) announced today that William F. Schwind, Jr., Marathon vice president, general counsel and secretary, will retire on his normal retirement date of Nov. 1, 2009. The Company also announced that Sylvia J. Kerrigan, Marathon assistant general counsel, has been elected vice president and general counsel, effective Sept. 1, 2009. Schwind will continue in his current role until Sept. 1, when he will assume the position of senior vice president of Law and secretary. Following his retirement, Kerrigan will assume the additional responsibility of corporate secretary.

Schwind was born in Chicago in 1944. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature and a Doctor of Law degree from Loyola University of Chicago.
He joined Marathon in 1974 in the Company's offices in Robinson, Illinois, and then Findlay, Ohio, and he subsequently held a number of legal and government affairs positions of increasing responsibility. In 1983 Schwind moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, as a commercial contract manager. He returned to the United States in 1984 serving as a general attorney for Marathon's refining, marketing, supply and transportation (downstream) activities located in Findlay.
In 1991, Schwind was appointed senior vice president of administration, general counsel and secretary of Delhi Gas Pipeline Corporation, a former wholly-owned subsidiary of Marathon located in Dallas.
