Wizzard Media Launches Second Phase of Podcast Monetization Via Apps
Thursday, July 30, 2009 7:18 AM

Wizzard Media (NYSE Amex: WZE), the world’s largest podcasting network announced today the launch of the much anticipated second phase of its new podcast network monetization strategy with the approval of the Hawaii Surf Session Report App, the first Wizzard Network customized Podcast App currently for sale through Apple’s App Store.

The Podcast App, developed by Wizzard Media, can be customized for a podcast producer in less than 30 minutes to include bonus material, show extras, interactive forms of communication between audience and host, as well as other information and entertainment. Wizzard plans to offer its top 1,000 podcast producers, based on audience size, a customized app; eventually opening this new product to the thousands of podcasts across the Wizzard Network. Wizzard will provide the Podcast App as a free tool to podcasters on the Wizzard Network and share in the revenue generated. All Apps submitted to the App Store require Apple approval to be available for sale on a worldwide basis and will generally range in price from $.99 to $4.99 each.

“Podcasters are great marketing influencers and with the launch of Wizzard’s unique, customizable Podcast App, they now have a new method to monetize their show beyond traditional advertising,“ says Laurie Sims, President of Wizzard Media. “Unlike most Apps in the App Store, podcasters have a distinct advantage in successfully marketing their App due to the fact that they have already built a substantial audience for their product. In addition to the one-time purchases of the Podcast App, Wizzard’s customizable podcast app creates an installed base of consumers for each podcast and lays the groundwork for further revenue opportunities such as monthly subscriptions and individual episode sales using the App Store’s in-App purchasing system.”

“The podcasts we distribute reach a growing annual audience of approximately 50 million viewers with 70% of those consuming these shows through the iTunes, iPhone, iPod platform,” says Chris Spencer, Wizzard Media CEO. “We believe these audiences will gladly spend a buck or two, from time to time, to get bonus content and materials from their favorite shows. The fact that it takes just two clicks on your phone or iPod to buy makes it just that much more convenient. It is a new day for the podcasting industry. Never before has their been a monetization method like this for podcast producers. The technology to charge for content was never available before today.
