Jul. 30--Sweat is the goal of working out.

Seeing perspiration stains on your clothing is not.

Thanks to today's technology, the proper workout gear gives you the ability to withstand maximum exercise without getting too sticky or uncomfortable, especially when you train outside in steamy temperatures. From socks to the type of bra you wear, working out can be a rewarding and, hopefully, dry experience.

"Choose more wicking fabrics (which draw moisture away from your body) before you start your workout," says Lindsey Emery, senior fitness editor for Fitness magazine. "Companies have different names for them such as 'Dri Fit' and 'Cool Max.' Just make sure you choose something with wicking. Also, look for tops that have mesh panels in areas that are more prone to sweat, such as under armpits or the lower back, where you may need a little extra breathability."

It also helps to stick to lighter colors such as yellow, white and orange, because they don't attract the sun as much as darker hues.

It's best to wear clothing with superior moisture-management technology to wick moisture away from the skin, says Jeff Hennion, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Dick's Sporting Goods.

"Under Armour's new TNP fabric is lightweight, quick-drying and designed to keep you cool, dry and comfortable during your workout," he says. "Under Armour, Fila and Alo provide the style as well as the functionality needed for workouts in extreme weather conditions. As long as the garment has moisture-wicking fabric, it's OK to wear pants during workouts on hot days -- as well as during activities like hot yoga."

There are even fabrics that have microbial properties in them to help neutralize bacteria. One of the newest is Cocona, a natural fabric technology that provides elaborate cooling, odor resistance and ultraviolet protection. One example is the New Balance sleeveless feminine tank, which is ideal for long runs and features a racer back for ease of movement.

Always wear at least a visor and a good pair of sunglasses. A hat may encapsulate heat and is not always the best choice on extremely humid days. Don't forget to wear a bra with some type of wicking, too. Under Armour has expanded its undergarment selection from bras to thongs.

"(A woman's) first workout layer with a moisture-management system is the most important for keeping her cool," says Kelly Finucane, women's category manager for Under Armour.
