TSX Review: Index Closed Higher

, Jul. 31, 2009 (Resource News International) -- The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX)closed higher
on Friday, with the biggest gains in the energy and materials sectors,
according to market watchers.

The TSX composite index increased by 110.43 points or 1.03% to
close at 10,787.15 on Friday. Trading volumes totaled 489.6 million
shares, up from 453.9 million on Thursday. Advances beat declines 987
to 489.

Eight of the TSX's ten sectoral indexes finished higher.

Some of the most actively traded stocks included:
Bombardier Inc.----------------- up 5.52% ----- at $ 3.82
Teck Resources------------------ up 4.04% ----- at $ 28.35

Some of the largest price changes included:
European Goldfields Limited----- up 12.07% ----- at $ 3.25
Detour Gold--------------------- up 6.92% ----- at $ 9.89

Canada's agricultural sector faired as follows:
Agrium Incorporated------------ up $ 0.01 ----- at $ 49.51
Buhler Industries-------------- up $ 0.03 ----- at $ 5.28
Maple Leaf Foods--------------- up $ 0.20 ----- at $ 9.15
Potash Corp. of Sask.---------- dn $ 2.77 ----- at $100.36
Viterra Inc.------------------- dn $ 0.06 ----- at $ 9.07
