Merge Healthcare (NASDAQ:MRGE) today announced that Allscripts
(NASDAQ:MDRX), the leader in software, services, information, and
connectivity solutions for physicians, has selected its Cedara
WebAccess™ software application to “image enhance” Allscripts Electronic
Health Record (EHR) solutions. The Cedara WebAccess portal will provide
a zero-footprint method of distributing medical images and reports to
clinicians using Allscripts EHR solutions.
“Providing physicians with real-time, electronic access to medical
images and associated information helps them to deliver safer, higher
quality patient care,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of
Allscripts. “Merge has decades of expertise in building imaging and
connectivity software solutions, and our clients have been asking for
just the kind of functionality this new relationship provides.”
“The Internet has fundamentally changed the way information is
distributed throughout a healthcare enterprise, and Allscripts has truly
been visionary in leveraging this technology,” states Justin Dearborn,
CEO of Merge Healthcare. “Our solution solves the unique challenges
posed by imaging, such as file size and special standards like DICOM. We
are thrilled to be able to work with the EHR leader to bring this
capability to the thousands of physicians currently using Allscripts
industry leading solutions. Together, we can now offer a truly
image-enhanced electronic record to health systems across the country.”
Designed for better interoperability across today’s healthcare
enterprise, Cedara WebAccess provides integration without the
duplication of data or the need for proprietary integrations with
individual IT systems. It uses a zero-footprint deployment approach,
which minimizes IT maintenance and hardware needs, “unclogs” busy data
networks by sending much smaller files and helps with privacy
regulations by ensuring that patient data is never stored on user
machines. This standards-based viewer makes diagnostic quality images
like X-rays, MRIs and CT scans available through any Web browser, which
gives healthcare professionals ready access to medical images and
reports anywhere, anytime.
“I’m looking forward to getting Cedara WebAccess in front of more of our
early adopter customers,” states Jeff Surges, President of Sales of
Allscripts. “It is the solution we have been looking for to make medical
imaging information flow faster and more cost-effectively. At the end of
the day, it will help our clients deliver and document more efficient
patient care, which benefits all constituents.” As a part of the new
agreement, Merge recently demonstrated the solution for the 2700
attendees at the Allscripts Client Experience national user conference
held in Orlando from July 30th to August 1, 2009.
