Fans Still Investing in Live Concert Experience

Brisk Sales Due to Substantial Deals for Top Acts Including $1 for Springsteen and Coldplay and $10 for Jonas Brothers

StubHub, the world’s largest ticket marketplace, revealed today that despite a depressed economy, consumer spending on summer concert tickets has increased significantly with a combination of increased affordability coupled with steady premium ticket demand. Over the first half of 2009, the company experienced a 54% leap in concert ticket transaction volume from 2008. Bolstered by a top flight event landscape with acts such as Paul McCartney, Jonas Brothers, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen along with U2 this fall, music fans are finding significant choice and greater values overall whether it be the front row or lawn seats.

With the summer concert season in high gear, some of music’s biggest acts are on the road for major tours and the trend of lower resale ticket pricing is only expected to continue. To wit, fans have already purchased tickets as low as $1 for Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay, $9 for Kenny Chesney and $10 for the Jonas Brothers this season. Average concert ticket prices on StubHub have declined 12% since 2008 and tickets for upcoming shows like the Jonas Brothers, August 7th in Los Angeles and U2, September 21st in Boston can be had for $20 or less.

“People sometime assume that a secondary ticket site only offers inflated prices but these numbers tell a different story,” said Ray Elias, Director of Marketing for StubHub. “What’s most impressive is we’re not merely seeing deals show up for the nosebleeds or lawn seats. There are significant values in all seat locations for amazing performers – offering a great opportunity to get out and have some fun without hurting budgets.”

And while extremely affordable deals are more prevalent than ever before, many shoppers have not been shy to spend lavishly on their favorite acts. Thousands of tickets for Eagles concerts have sold at an average price of $264 for their 2009 shows. Similarly, other legacy performers like Eric Clapton, Elton John with Billy Joel and Celine Dion have all fetched an average ticket price of over $200 to date this year demonstrating many fans desire to sit in the best seats in the house.

Ticket prices have become much more affordable due to ticket resellers responding to the economic conditions. With these prices only getting better, StubHub has released a list of some of the very best ticket deals fans have found for the summers top tours; displaying that in fact tickets from resale services like StubHub are very attainable for budget conscious fans.
